It’s been extremely challenging to renew Myanmar passport in everywhere. Back home in Myanmar, our families and friends have been paying PREMIUM to get their passport renew from the lcoal immigration office. If you were living in Bangkok, Thailand and holding a work permit (the blue book), you can get your passport renew easily at the Embassy of Myanmar located at https://maps.app.goo.gl/nmnyABWZjD933kmy8.

If your current passport type is PJ type, it will be strait forward, you simply need to get a Q number (a date stamp in your current passport), and follow the instruction. I will list out the procedure known to be the standard procedure at the time of writing.

Passport type: PJ

  1. Check your passport expiry date, you can only renew if expiry date is 6 months or less
  2. Get the Q number at the old embassy building (https://maps.app.goo.gl/f2Qb1iAKTmHzHahj7), at the time of writing only issuing at Saturday & Sunday morning from 7am onward.
  3. On the day of your appointment, go the embassy early, get the form to fill in reception.
  4. After filled in your personal information, hand over to the reception to validate any missing information.
  5. If all information is validated and you will need to pay the fee first. To pay the fee, you can go to the nearest Bangkok Bank to wire 1,250 THB to the embassy account. The bank’s employee seem to remember the account number, it’s fine if you didn’t get a picture of the embassy bank account.
  6. After you paid, get the pay slip to attache with your form and back to the embassy.
  7. Submit the form at the basket in front of counter 1 & 2.
  8. After your form is submitted, be alert to hear your name to be called for taking picture and biometric registration, although there is Q number stamp on your form, but it might not be called in sequence (at least not in my case).
  9. After #8, you might go the nearest coffee shop to wait for 1–2 hours for your new passport to be issued. You can collected at the counter near counter 1 & 2, in front of the toilet area. Please do hesitate anyone sitting if your name has been called.
  10. After you get your passport renew, you should go to the Thai Immigration office to transfer your visa and re-entry permits, this is very crucial.

Passprot Type : PV

If your current passport type is PV, you will need to convert to PJ before renewal. To convert your PV to PJ, you need the following documents to apply for permission to convert.

  • Employment letter from your current company
  • Current work permit copies
  • Copies of your current passport pages
  • Tax payment slip from Myanmar while you were working in Myanmar, I am not sure if there is any alternative proof, but I was asked to provide and luckily, I had paid all the tax while I was working in Myanmar.

After you get all the document from above ready, please following the same step from Passport Type: PJ, however the waiting for applying for converting permission from PV to PV varied, I had to wait for 3 months before I am allowed to renew my passport.
